What is Cordyceps?

Cordyceps sinensis, also known as Chinese cordyceps, is a species of parasitic fungus. Unlike other beneficial Asian mushrooms, it doesn't grow on trees but rather lives in the ground. Its main food source is the larvae of the moths found there, which the cordyceps first attacks, occupies, and kills, then extracts the nutrients it needs to thrive. Cordyceps naturally occurs in the high mountainous regions of Nepal and Tibet. Harsh climatic conditions and a clean environment make this fungus rich in beneficial substances, and its use in Asian traditional medicine dates back hundreds of years.

The main active ingredients attributed to the health-promoting properties of this mushroom are  cordyceps  acid and  adenosine . In addition, like other mushrooms, cordyceps also contains  polysaccharides .
